The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the Republics of Cuba, Honduras and Venezuela in Jamaica strongly condemn the recent attack on the constitutionality and democracy in the sister nation of the Republic of Honduras, a repulsive act, that took place on the morning of June 28, when a group of Honduran soldiers forcefully broke into the Residence of the President of the Republic, José Manuel Zelaya Rosales, taking him hostage and transporting him out of the country against his will. We join with national and international voices against the coup d’état, and appeal for the re-establishment of the institutional order in Honduras and the preservation of human lives. We demand that the most elementary democratic principles of the International Law be respected and particularly, those enshrined in the Vienna Convention of 1961 on Diplomatic Relations, relative to the treatment of diplomats and diplomatic missions. We welcome the declaration of the Jamaican Government who maintain their full support and recognition to President Zelaya, and their call for his immediate reinstatement We are convinced that justice and truth will prevail.
