War Chants Rumble in Defense of the Homeland

CUBA, Apr 10, 2010. -  For Cuba, we are willing to turn our love songs into war chants, of insurgency, said this Saturday poet Luis Carlos Suarez in the Concert for the Homeland in eastern Santiago de Cuba.

Suarez demanded, at the open area of the 26 de Julio School city, respect for the work of a people that has earned the right to be free and sovereign after centuries of struggle.

Mercenaries, traitors and apostates will never represent a country built on the blood and sweat of thousands of its children said the poet.

He slashed those in Europe and the US who have embarked in a crusade against Cuba which reaches the level of collective hysteria, and are using all their media power to distort Cuban reality in the eyes of the world.

No threat will affect a people that won its freedom with the arms, said Suarez and ratified the full support to the Revolution from artists, writers and the rest of the intelligentsia.

Time for music and poetry, dances and folkloric traditions lived up the Saturday afternoon in an auditorium where the new generations were majority.

Cuban national poet Nicolas Guillen's verses recited by actress Fatima Patterson and the Federico García Lorca's poem, “I will go to Santiago” was sung by the Orfeón Santiago choir at the beginning of the event.

The Original de Manzanillo popular orchestra and award-winning songwriter and troubadour José Aquiles performed at the early stages of the concert, followed by over 20 musical groups from eastern Cuba, while the same was happening in Havana city. (Cubaminrex - acn)
