Angola Rejects EU Parliament's Position on Cuba

ANGOLA, March 16, 2010 .- Organizations in solidarity with Cuba in Angola today vigorously rejected the condemnation by the European Parliament (EP) against the Cuban Revolution, and expressed strong support for the democratic process, humanism and solidarity in this Caribbean island.

Fernando Jaime, secretary general of the Angola-Cuba Friendship Association, said the European position is hypocritical and without policy consistency, and is answering, he said, to the interests of the U.S. government.

The imperial power of the North has, for over 50 years, maintained a harsh economic, financial and commercial blockade against the tiny Caribbean country, in which the conservative European politicians are complicit, he told Prensa Latina.

Small counterrevolutionary groups in Cuba, with funding from U.S. mafia organizations, are seeking to overthrow the revolution and eliminate its conquests. Europe is making groundless accusations against Cuba of the violation of human rights. The EP is mute, however, about discrimination against immigrants in some countries of this bloc, who are mistreated and denied basic rights, he added.

He noted that the Angolan people and the African countries have expressed their unconditional support for Cuba in the struggle to preserve their independence and self-determination, as a free and sovereign country.

In Africa, he said, Cuba has not sown wars or promoted conflicts like the United States, but has sent armies of aid workers, doctors, construction workers and teachers to contribute to the welfare of the peoples of the continent. (Cubaminrex – Granma internacional)
