Condemnation in Europe to Media Campaign against Cuba

CUBA, Mar 19, 2010. -  Declarations of condemnation to the resolution of the European Parliament on Cuba and to the media campaign against the island carried out by the United States and its allies are taking place in the Old Continent.

Euro MP Joao Ferreira expressed: "We condemn all forms of interference or attack, including the criminal blockade to which the Cuban people has been submitted for almost half a century now.”

"That’s why we understand that the logical stance of the European Union, the course to follow, should be that of the total normalization of relations with Cuba, with the withdrawal of the Common Position, which represents an unacceptable discrimination exerted on Cuba and its people."

In favor of this statement was Ilda Figueiredo, who said: "This unacceptable Common Position can’t continue, which prevents the European Union from having comprehensive and open relations with the Cuban government on the basis of bilateral interests."

For its part, the South Group, made up by European non-governmental organizations, described the aforementioned resolution as a political mistake.

It also specifies that this resolution reflects a lack of vision and medium and long-term strategy to develop an efficient routing sheet in the construction of relations between the European Union and Cuba.

From Athens, the Word Trade Federation sent a press release to international media outlets, the United Nations and the European Commission, in which it condemns the political and media campaign against Cuba.

In the letter, also addressed to trade unions from around the world, the organization reaffirms its solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people and workers, demands the end of the US blockade of the island and respect to Cuba’s right to choose its own destiny and its economic, political and social model.

Likewise in Athens, the Greek Committee of International Democratic Solidarity described the resolution as yet another effort on the part of the European Community to give credibility to counterrevolutionary groups in Cuba financed and supported by Washington.

Also from Italy, the Network of Communists from that nation made public its condemnation to this new aggression against the Caribbean island. (Cubaminrex - acn)
