International Conference for World Equilibrium
President of Cuban Parliament Closes International Conference for World Equilibrium

CUBA, January 31, 2008.- The president of Cuba's Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon, urged those who fight for a better world to create new alliances in this time of unity when the ideals of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti are more valid than ever.

During the closing ceremony of the 2nd International Conference "For World Equilibrium" on Wednesday in Havana, Alarcon referred to Marti's presence in the Cuban Revolution, even since the organization of struggle against Batista's dictatorship in the early 1950s.

He also referred to the participation in the event - with their ideas and solidarity - of five Cuban political prisoners - internationally known as the Cuban Five - who have been unjustly imprisoned in the United States for more than nine years already for fighting against terrorism.

The Cuban legislator criticized the US government that, in spite of the current situation of hunger and illiteracy that prevails in many regions of the world, continues with its crazy ideas of world domination and its military race.

More than 400 delegates and guests from 35 countries who participated in the conference, which began last Monday, sent their best wishes to Cuban President Fidel Castro and supported the final declaration of the event which, among other aspects, establishes January 31st as Day of Latin American and Caribbean Identity.

The First International Conference "For World Equilibrium" was first held in 2003 and it was scheduled to take place every five years. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
