Esteban Lazo Inaugurates International Tourism Fair
CUBA, May 4, 2010. Esteban Lazo Hernández, Vice President of the Council of State and member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party, last night inaugurated the 30th International Tourism Fair, FITCuba 2010. Manuel Marrero, Minister of Tourism of Cuba; representatives of the Party and the government; workers of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) and special guests from Russia (guest of honour), also attended the ceremony.
Mijail Kaminin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cuba, told Granma newspaper that such a gesture—proceeded by the honorary invitation to the recent Havana International Book Fair—is another evidence of the eternal friendship and solidarity existing between our nations.
"Both events have taken place in a special year since, on next May 8 (closing day of FITCuba), we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries," he said.
Kaminin noted that the number of Russian visitors to Cuba has ample potential to increase, since Cuba has become more attractive as a tourist destination.
The opening address was delivered by María Elena López Reyes, Deputy Minister of MINTUR, who spoke of the fair as a tourist stained-glass window where, during 30 years, the effort of the workers committed to the development of the tourist sector inside and outside the country has been reflected.
"Thanks to their dedication we have been able to make a sustainable tourist offer, including beaches and the natural attractions with the inescapable values of our population and the cultural and patrimonial richness of Cuba," she added.
The ceremony ended with a tour around the exhibition area located in the Morro-Cabaña Cultural complex, where FITCuba 2010 once again reopens its doors to initiate the promotion and business activities. (Cubaminrex- Granma)
