African, Afro-American Meeting in Cuba

CUBA, Jan 20, 2010. - More than 30 US, Brazilian, Spanish, Colombian, Panamanian, Cape Verdean and French researchers have confirmed their participation to the 11th International Conference on African and Afro-American Culture.

Santiago de Cuba will host the meeting from April 12 to 16, honoring the African continent influence on the American countries, The Cuban News Agency reported.

According to the Conference' coordinator Marta Cordies, it has the objective of reflecting about the current problem in Africa, it political-cultural relations with the Latin American and Caribbean countries and the African Diaspora around the world.

Social Science researchers, artists, doctors, priests and people who practice popular African religions will discuss about the history of that continent and subjects related to gender, race and identity.

The conference will include the workshops: El Color y la Forma (Color and Shape) for the fine arts, Imagenes (Image) for film and ethnological video, El Ritmo Ancestral (Ancient Rhythm) for the African music and dance and Mascara (Mask) related to theater.

It will also host the Medicine and Culture Symposium that will present connections between medical and social sciences starting from practice of the Cuban internationalism, which set up inter-culture links. (Cubaminrex - Prensa Latina)
