Cubans to Constitute the Municipal Assemblies of the People’s Power on Wednesday
CUBA, May 18, 2010. The 169 Municipal Assemblies of the People’s Power will be constituted on Wednesday throughout the island, according to the work schedule of the National Electoral Commission (CEN) for the current period of partial elections.
The Municipal Candidacy Commissions, constituted on March 28, have worked in the selection of the best candidates to occupy the posts of presidents and vice-presidents of these municipal governmental organs, which will be chosen during a meeting scheduled for May 19, according to information provided by Ana Maria Mari, president of the CEN.
These commissions are made up by representatives of the mass organizations from the nation’s 169 municipalities, and each of them is headed by a representative from the Confederation of Cuban Workers.
The amount of delegates adds up to 15,093, elected in the same number of constituencies during the three rounds of elections carried out on April 25 and May 2 and 5.
In the opinion of Mari, the composition of that group of representatives of the people is ideal, since 5,046 are women (33.43 %) and 10,921 are youngsters.
Both Mari and Ruben Perez, vice-president of the CEN, have underlined the success of the performance of the People’ Power, expressed by the 7,402 delegates that were re-elected during the recent partial elections. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
