Raul Attends Inauguration of Havana’s International Ballet Festival.
CUBA, October 28th, 2010.- Cuban President Raul Castro attended the inaugural gala of the 22nd edition of Havana’s International Ballet Festival, held at the Garcia Lorca Hall of Havana’s Grand Theater.
The program included the world premiere of the piece Improntu Lecuona, by Alicia Alonso, starred by prima ballerina Barbara Garcia, as well as the screening of the documentary “Alicia Alonso, para que Giselle no muriera,” (Alicia Alonso, so Giselle didn’t Die), by the Television Española television network, and the solemn presentation of the ballet company founded by the prima ballerina assoluta and dancers from all educational levels of ballet schools in this capital.
The Symphony Orchestra of Havana’s Grand Theater, conducted by maestro Giovanni Duarte, accompanied the performances of the evening.
This edition of the Festival is dedicated to the 90th birthday of Alicia Alonso, the
founder of Cuba’s National Ballet Company and one the greatest figures of the world of dance of the 20th century. (Cubaminrex - ACN)
