Cuban Band Performs at Festival in Savannah, Georgia

UNITED STATES, 8 April, 2011.- One of the best Cuban rumba bands Los Muñequitos de Matanzas will perform again Friday, at the Festival of Savannah, Georgia, as part of a tour of several cities in the United States that started April 2.
According to the event’s website, after a major success of Los Muñequitos’ concert for Thursday, which was sold out and took place at the Charles H. Morris Center, the band will give another presentation Friday for its enthusiastic audience.
Director of the band Diosdado Ramos told Cuban media via telephone the group’s presentations in Seattle were very well received and that the theater was packed.
Dancers with the band Barbaro and Vivian Ramos assured that rumba broke the language barriers.
Los Muñequitos de Matanzas’s US tour includes more than a dozen cities concluding at the University of New York on May 8. In addition to the concerts, band members are also giving lectures and dance lessons at different universities.
Ramos said the band will perform on Saturday at the Rialto Theater of Atlanta and on April 10 they will return, after nine years, to Florida where they will play at the University of Florida, the Miami Art Center and in Tampa.
With a perpetual homage to their ancestors, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas maintain the authentic roots of the Afro-Cuban culture which they have proudly promoted in their tours throughout Europe, Latin America and the US.
A review by The New York Times dated April 3 says Los Muñequitos offer “spectacular sensual dancing and some of the most complex drumming to be heard in this hemisphere.” (Cubaminrex-RHC)
