Original Cuban Movie Posters to Be Exhibited in US.

CUBA, May 3, 2011.- The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present an exhibition of posters for Cuban-produced and international films titled “Cuban Film Posters: From Havana to the World” at its Grand Lobby Gallery in Beverly Hills.

The display, open to the public on May 13 through August 28, comprises 125 hand-silkscreened posters created by Cuban artists for the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) which donated the artworks to the Academy’s Margaret Herrick library, according to the Academy's official website, www.oscars.org.

Each year one poster is made by Cuban graphic artists for every locally produced or international film presented by ICAIC in the island. These include “Strawberry and Chocolate,” “Fallen Gods,” “The Shining” and “The Bycicle Thief,” explains the Academy’s website adding that the artworks are then widely distributed across the country.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Academy and the Los Angeles Film Festival will present “A Celebration of Cuban Film” on Wednesday, June 22, at the oficial venue for the Oscars’ awarding ceremony, the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The festival’s artistic director David Ansen will host the event that will feature film clips, an onstage panel discussion with visiting Cuban directors, and a screening of “Strawberry and Chocolate” (1994), Cuba’s only Foreign Language Film award nominee to date. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
