Traditional Cuban Music Temple Restored

CUBA, January 19th, 2011.- The Casa de la Trova of Santiago de Cuba, an emblematic area of traditional Cuban music, was recently restored. The house, located on Heredia and San Felix streets, a few steps from the Cathedral and the Cespedes Park, was restored to the original bohemian decoration which made it a very popular meeting point in the city.

Important Cuban figures like Sindo Garay, Ñico Saquito, Compay Segundo and the Ferrín Sisters used to perform there. The official inauguration will take place on January 23rd, but this house opened on Tuesday for a gathering for music lovers from different generations.

The music temple, founded by Virgilio Palais in 1968, was restored with the help of artists from the Caguayo Foundation, cultural institutions that donated rescued pieces, and builders. (Cubamnirex-RHC)
