Cuban Singer-Songwriter Carlos Varela on U.S. Tour in June

CUBA, May 25, 2011.- Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela will undertake a new U.S. tour in June during which he is scheduled to offer nine concerts and to participate in important music events.
The tour will run from June 10 to 25 and it includes shows in Miami, New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

According to the website of the Cuban musician (www.carlosvarela.com), he will perform at the Great American Music Hall of San Francisco, at the Playboy Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, at New York’s Blue Note Jazz Festival, and at Peter Seeger’s Clearwater Revival in Croton, also in New York.

In addition, Varela will also give concerts at more intimate clubs and other venues such as BB King’s Blues in New York and the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Boston. He will wrap up the tour with three shows in Miami.

Carlos Varela is considered one of the more well-known representatives of the generation of Cuban singer-songwriters who made names for themselves within the so-called “novisima trova cubana” musical and lyrical style.

In 2010, he offered 11 concerts for the U.S. and Puerto Rican public promoting his latest album, entitled “No Es El Fin,” which was released in 2009.

Some of Varela’s songs have been included in their repertoire by prestigious artists such as Joaquin Sabina, Ana Belen, Miguel Bose and Pablo Milanes.

His song ‘Una palabra’ was chosen by director Tony Scott for the last scene of his film Man on Fire, which starred Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
