Photo Exhibit Dedicated to Yuri Gagarin Inaugurated in Havana.

CUBA, April 13, 2011.- The photographic exhibition “Vamonos, 50 años del primer vuelo del hombre al espacio,” (Let’s go: 50th anniversary of man’s first flight into outer space) in commemoration of the flight into space of Soviet Yuri Gagarin, was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Natural History Museum in this capital.

The pictures were provided by the Russian agency Ria Novosti, and show several moments of the professional life of the cosmonaut, as well as his interaction with several leaders of the Cuban Revolution.

Present in the opening ceremony were Mikhail L. Kamynin, ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cuba, and Oleg Viazmitinov, representative of the Ria Novosti agency to Havana, the Granma newspaper reported on Tuesday.

In Russia, the Cuba-Russia Friendship Society; the Cuban ambassador to Russia, Juan Valdes; Cuban students in that nation, and children of Cuban diplomats, also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight into space on Tuesday.

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to experience outer space, making a 108-minute orbital flight in his Vostok 1 spacecraft.

Recently, in honor of that historic first mission into space, by its resolution A/RES/65/271 of 7 April 7, 2011, the UN General Assembly declared 12 April as the International Day of Human Space Flight. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
