Thousands of Cubans Participated in Military Parade and Rally.

CUBA, April 16, 2011.– Hundreds of thousands of Havana residents, representing the entire Cuban people, participated Saturday morning in a military parade and mass march, passing through the José Martí Revolution Square. The ceremony was presided over by Cuban president Raúl Castro.

The activity marked the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution on April 16th, 1961 by Revolution leader Fidel Castro, at the burial ceremony for the victims of the sabotage bombings against Cuban airfields perpetrated the day before by US Douglas B-26B Invader bombers.

Saturday’s activity also marked the 50th anniversary of the Cuban people’s victory against the US-led mercenary invasion at Bay of Pigs, regarded as the first defeat of US imperialism in the Americas.

At the end of the military ceremony, thousands of Cubans, mainly youths, representing the new Cuban generations to whom the celebration is dedicated, marched pass through the historical Revolution Square.

Similar activities were also taking place nationwide to pay homage to the Bay of Pigs heroes and martyrs, as well as to demand the US government to release the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly incarcerated for nearly 13 years now for defending their people and nation against terrorism.

The military parade and march in Havana was also attended by the delegates of the 6th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
