Over half a Billion Dollars from International Collaboration Used for Local Development in Cuba
CUBA, March 31, 2010. Cuba benefited in 2009 from works and services valued at more than 530 million dollars, the fruits of economic cooperation programs between international organizations and local governments on the Caribbean nation.
Raciel Proenza, director of Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, said in Havana that during that period over 1200 negotiation projects were implemented with more than 50 countries.
Proenza said that such spontaneous solidarity samples are taking place in the middle of a large media campaign and pressures from the enemies of the Cuban Revolution.
Among the tasks carried out in the communities are included the rehabilitation and maintenance of houses affected by weather events, building community houses and actions to sanitation, drainage and solid waste management.
Fabio Laurenzi, co-director of the Ecopolis Havana project, highlighted the implementation of pilot programs in the Cuban capital, related to economy, society and the environment.
Some fifty kindergartens received equipment, maintenance or repair, the fruit of solidarity aid, stressed Felix Mejias, director of the Collaborative Council of the Provincial Administration of Havana.
In the territory, this initiative is carried out by the Group for the Integral Development of the Capital, with the participation of specialists from various institutions. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
