More than 11% Growth on Tourist Arrivals in Cuba.

CUBA, June 23, 2011.- According to recent figures by the Cuban National Statistics Office (NSO), the number of tourists who have visited the island through May increased by 11.3 percent as compared with the same period last year.

The NSO newsletter indicates the growth in visitors for the January-May period corresponds mostly to an increase in the number of travelers from Canada and Europe.

In May alone, 183,791 tourists came to the island, representing a 7.2 percent increase over the same month of 2010.

According to official figures, Cuba receives around 2.5 million foreign visitors a year, and expectations for 2011 are to reach 2.7 million. In order to achieve this goal, the tourism minister has set the remodelling of facilities and the development of ecotourism as top priorities.

The leading countries sending travelers to Cuba are Canada, Russia, Argentina, UK, Chile and France. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
