Cuba Wins First Prize at Int'l Contest.
CUBA, March 9th, 2011.- Cuba won first prize in a student contest of the Fifth International Conference on Participatory Design and Appropriate Technology for Post-Disaster Reconstruction, Granma newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Works from the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, China, Colombia and Uruguay were presented in the event, which took place in India.
Cuban winners were Jorge Luis Rivero, Lismary Pallas, and Arsenio Rodriguez, junior architecture students at Las Villas Central University, with the work "Arquitectura versus Desastres."
According to Andres Olivares, who led students along with Ociel Diaz, new techniques, practice sense, and the contribution to the project's sustainability were taken into consideration in the decision of the jury, comprised of relevant scientists. (Cubaminrex-PL)
