Cuba Celebrates World Day for Cultural Diversity
CUBA, May 21, 2010. Cuba carried out a wide-ranging program on Friday, on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, promoted by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
Fernando Burgman, coordinator of the Culture Team of UNESCO’s Regional Culture Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted that this celebration, aimed at promoting peace and the possibility of living in a better world, has special significance in 2010, the international year for the rapprochement of cultures.
He informed that activities began on May 7 and that they included workshops, conferences and debates for reflection.
A Saturday Book Fair is taking place today in all provincial capitals with the presentation of several titles from the Arte y Literatura publishing house in its Orbis Collection, by authors from different cultures and in various languages.
The international workshop Somos del Caribe will take place on May 26 at the Africa Center and next Thursday there will be a gala with the participation of students from ballet academies, at Havana’s Grand Theater.
The program will end on June 1st with the inauguration of the exhibition of the animation film “Pubertad, todo me cambia” at the Fresa y Chocolate Cinematographic Center.
These actions to mark the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development were also sponsored by the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO, the Culture Ministry and the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU). (Cubaminrex- RHC).
