For Cuba, Fidel and Raúl, to Revolution Square
CUBA, April 30, 2010.Tomorrow, with massive and enthusiastic parades in the country’s main streets and squares, the Cuban people, united, organized, combative and disciplined, will send a message to the world, saying that Cuba is and will always be revolutionary, stated Esteban Lazo, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party. He was addressing participants in the plenary session held on Thursday in this capital to check the final preparations for the main rally organized for International Workers Day in the José Martí Revolution Square.
The meeting brought together the main leaders of the Cuban Workers Confederation and national labor unions, the Party and mass organizations from the province and its 15 municipalities, as well as representatives from organizations and entities directly involved in the parade, many of whom provided details on the organization of the ten groups that will march and on the arrangements to guarantee its success.
Lazo stressed that participants in the parade will not only stage a mass demonstration but that they will be also aware of the moment, saying that we’ll march for the homeland, which means for ourselves, for Fidel and Raúl, and against a terrible wrong and the lies, so they respect us. That’s the message!
For his part, Salvador Valdés Mesa announced that the country is ready for the May 1st celebrations, rising to the call made by Raúl to fill the streets and public squares to show the unity of our people, and giving another convincing response to this new international escalation of aggressions and defamation against Cuba.
Also presiding over the plenary were Liudmila Álamo, first secretary of the Young Communist League, who announced that all parades in the country will be closed by a group representing the island’s youngsters; and Yolanda Ferrer, general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women, who said that there will be special groups of women marching in all the provinces and municipalities, thus creating a symbol for the first time with this line up.
