CUBA, July 29, 2010.- The president of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), Ramon Pez Ferro, praised on Wednesday the work of this body in the first semester of 2010.
Pez Ferro said that the Cuban Parliament has relations with 120 similar institutions from all over the world and with 93 friendship groups in as many legislative bodies.
He said that, until July, Cuba has been visited by 106 legislative delegations, including eight parliament presidents and four vice-presidents.
He added that actions in solidarity with Cuba have taken place in 76 countries, mainly condemning Washington’s economic blockade of the island and in support of the release of five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.
Pez Ferro referred to the publication by the Cuban Parliament of declarations in support of the Palestinian people and condemning a recent Israeli attack against a humanitarian flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip, among others.
Parliamentarian Tubal Paez read a report on his work regarding a meeting with a group of friendship with Cuba at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, and the Latin America-European Union congressional assembly in Seville, Spain.
On Thursday, the Foreign Relations Commission will discuss relations between Cuba and the European Union. They will also analyze Cuba-US relations, the current state of ties with Sub-Saharan Africa and the current imperialist threats against Iran and North Korea. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
