Cuban Internationalist Workers Send Message to Fidel and Raul.
CUBA, June 24, 2011.- The delegates to the Meeting to Pay Tribute to Internationalist Workers sent a message to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro, on behalf of the thousands of Cuban men and women who have fulfilled missions in several countries of the world.
In the letter, read on Friday during the closing of that event held in Cuba since June 14 on the occasion of the births of Antonio Maceo and Ernesto Guevara, the internationalist workers thank Fidel and Raul for trusting the island’s health professionals, as firm bastions to carry the flag of proletarian internationalism.
Likewise, they ratify their commitment to fulfill any task wherever they’re needed.
Deputy Public Health Minister Marcia Cobas congratulated the internationalists of this sector, who have offered medical services and solidarity in several parts of the planet, even in isolated places or in disaster situations.
She announced that, today, more than 40,000 internationalist workers, 16,000 of them physicians, are offering their services in 68 nations.
Also present in the meeting, organized by the National Health Workers Union (SNTS), were Yiliam Jimenez, director of the Central Medical Cooperation Unit; Carlos Alberto Martinez and Alina Cardenas, officials of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party; and Maria Isabel Martinez, general secretary of the SNTS, among others.
