Jose Ramon Fernandez Meets with Delegates to Children’s Congress

http://www.cubanews.ain.cu/images/Varias/machado-pioneros.jpgCuba, April 4, 2011.- The willingness to struggle and win, just ideas, unity and strength are the most powerful weapons of a people, the weapons our people will always have, asserted on Saturday Jose Ramon Fernandez, Vice-president of the Council of Ministers.

The 300 delegates to the 5th Pioneer Children’s Congress met with this Hero of the Republic of Cuba before the beginning of their sessions in Havana on April 3 and 4, to retrace the path of their country’s history and that of the Revolution, which began in 1868 and continues today with the youngest generations, in charge of its preservation and continuation.

That’s the reason why, although focused on the deed of Bay of Pigs, the keynote lecture by Fernandez went even back in time and, as if coming out from the pages of a book, children and adolescents saw men and events of epic dimensions pass in front of their eyes, in a singular review they will remember for many years –Cuba before and after 1959.

Our legacy is this work, everything achieved -sovereignty, the struggle for justice, the commitment to the people and a history full of glory-, which has cost lives, effort, pain and the sacrifice of many. Now it’s your turn to defend every success and dream and to continue building the future, he added.

As a keepsake of this day, Yamile Ramos, president of the Jose Marti Pioneer Children’s Organization, gave Jose Ramon Fernandez, one of the event’s 10 Delegates of Honor, a painting in which the Granma yacht sails in a sea of blue scarves, where the words “Cuban Pioneer Children Set Course for the Future” can be read.

The Granma yacht is a symbol of freedom, the freedom that your parents and gradparents  achieved and that the Cuban youth will preserve forever, said happily and at the same time visibly moved the Vice-president of the Council of Ministers.

During the meeting, held at the Julio Antonio Mella National School of the Young
Communists’ League, the Eduardo Garcia Delgado School of Art Instructors, student organizations and the Federation of Cuban Women, gave the school certificates and gifts on the occasion of its 50th birthday. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
