Over 4 500 Cuban Children Benefited by Cardiovascular Program.
CUBA, August 29, 2011.- More than 4 500 Cuban children have been successfully treated at the Havana-based William Soler Cardiovascular Hospital, since the National Heart Rehabilitation Program kicked off in 1992.
The head of the Hospital’s Education and Research Department, Doctor Francisco Carballes told the Cuban news agency that between 300 and 400 kids undergo surgery each year, and over 300 are treated with the catheter technique, a procedures that replaces surgery.alt
The specialist said that children who have been treated with both techniques take regular check-ups and follow rehabilitation, which increases their quality of life.
Doctor Carballes, founder of the pediatric hospital, said that the cardiovascular network, made up of hospitals in each province, plus specialized rehabilitation assistance by community doctors allows for a successful treatment of children, even avoiding their missing of school years.(Cubaminrex-RHC)
