Cuban Ruperto Herrera Elected Member of CACSO’s Executive Committee.

CUBA, March 5, 2011.- Cuban Ruperto Herrera Tabio was elected member of the Executive Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) during its General Ordinary Assembly in Veracruz, Mexico.

Herrera, a former basketball player and General Secretary of the Cuban Olympic Committee, told the Cuban website www.jit.cu that his appointment recognizes the prestige of Cuban sports and strengthens his commitment to defend it.

Representatives from 32 countries who attended the CACSO meeting also re-elected Hector Cardona as the president of the organization and discussed topics such as the need to halt the accelerated growth of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

Participants were also briefed about preparations for the upcoming Pan American Games of Guadalajara, Mexico, in October 2011, and for the 2015 event in Toronto, Canada.

Present in the meeting was the president of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), Mario Vazquez Raña.
