UN Millennium Development Goals on Track in Cuba.
GENEVA, July 7, 2011.- Cuba has pointed to its good pace in the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals, being among the Third World nations with the best performance in this area.
At the general debate of the UN Social and Economic Council in Geneva, Cuban diplomat Nancy Madrigal noted that despite the continuous natural disasters suffered by the island and the U.S. economic blockade, the country has worked hard to achieve favourable results.
She mentioned that all Cubans have the right to a quality education, citing the recognitions made by different UN organizations to the progress in education, science and culture and the great advancements in these fields.
The Cuban representative in Geneva emphasized that the island has achieved an average educational level higher than the 9th grade, and with perspectives of improving that level. And the diplomat also mentioned the high quality, special education offered to those who are disabled in Cuba and the island’s assistance provided to a number of developing countries. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
