Cuban Women Federation to Dedicate its 51st Anniversary to Fidel.
CUBA, August 18, 2011.- The Cuban province of Matanzas will be the venue for the main meeting to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) on August 23.
According to the member of the FMC’s national board, Teresa Hernandez, “the celebration will be dedicated to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, champion of gender equality and women’s rights,” the Granma newspaper reported.
She added that it will also pay tribute to Vilma Espin, a constant inspiration to all Cuban women. Within the framework of celebrations, the organization will also strengthen its commitment to President Raul Castro and the Cuban Communist Party.
Varied political and cultural activities will take place in all Cuban provinces. Once again, the members of this organization will ratify their steadfast commitment to uphold the Cuban Revolution and to further improve the internal functioning of the nearly 4 million-member organization.
The FMC leader pointed out that Matanzas was selected as the venue for this year’s central event as a result of the work it carried out in 2010 and the first half of 2011, and described the work of the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Camaguey and Villa Clara as outstanding.
Activities commemorating the occasion include exchanges with young FMC members, functions to welcome FMC newcomers, and recognitions to FMC founders, social workers, and combatants of the ministries of the Armed Forces and the Interior. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
