International Film and Television School

TA quiet country site, located in San Antonio de los Baños, a town 35 kilometers away from City of Havana, is the venue for the International Film and Television School (EICTV), the New Latin American Film Foundation's most important academic project.

This cultural institution was created on December 15, 1986 to technically and artistically form and train film, television and video professionals mainly coming from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.

The school has classrooms with modern equipment and the requirements for editing, sound mixing, dubbing, special effects and musical recordings, in addition to a repairs and maintenance workshop, among others.

From its initial stage, prestigious filmmakers from Latin America and the rest of the world have been at the head of this institution, also called the School of Three Worlds: Fernando Birri (Argentine), Orlando Senna (Brazilian), Lisandro Duque (Colombian), Alberto García Ferrer (Spanish-Argentine) and Edmundo Aray (Venezuelan poet and filmmaker).

Numerous students from this school have won prizes and recognitions at international exhibitions and festivals for their works.

Although the school was created to meet the need for producing and distributing films from Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and Africa, its main achievement has been the formation of new generations of film and video professionals, and the continuous training of those who work in audiovisual media.

The Rossellini Prize, awarded to the institution at the 46th Cannes Festival (1993), is of particular relevance for the history of this school. This famous prize is among the most important awards in the world of cinema and was established on the 40th anniversary of the film Rome, Open City to pay tribute to the works or people who embody Rossellini's characteristic spirit of progress, generosity and humanism.

Since its establishment, this institution, which has graduated students from some 40 countries, has served as a creative space for continuous debates on the audiovisual world and the transcultural process. Students from more than 35 countries have participated in the workshops organized by the institution.
