CHINA, August 15, 2008. Cuban Baseball head coach Antonio Pacheco called insulting US manager Davey Johnson's charges of an intentionally injurious ball thrown by Cuban pitcher Pedro Luis Lazo against US batter Jayson Nix. Pacheco, who made his statement after Cuba defeated the US 5-4, said the ball hit Jason, who tried to bunt when the US trailed Cuba by two runs scored under the new tie-breaker rule. Jason nicked the ball, which ricocheted and hit him in the face, said Pacheco. Cuban pitcher Lazo added that he never pitches to hit a player, "because it is just not good. As a pitcher I only try to strike out the batter." (Cubaminrex- PL) |
