Cuba for a Million in Universities

CUBA, July 5, 2007.- Cuban Higher Education Minister Juan Vela Valdez said his country aspires to have one million university students in 2009, according to local media .

That figure will represent one student per 11 inhabitants of the island, an unprecedented fact in any other nation, "Granma" newspaper states.

About 1,723 young people received their university certificates, in their respective places of birth where they studied.

President Fidel Castro boosted the idea of taking higher education to the country's municipalities, whose aim is to raise people's cultural level and foster a full life for the Cubans. (Cubaminrex-PL)
