Educational Opportunities for People with Disabilities
CUBA , 29 November, 2007.- The development of special education in Cuba is a major accomplishment of the revolution, providing educational opportunities to people with physical and mental disabilities.
The ACN news service reported on Wednesday that more than 400 special education schools are operating throughout the island using teaching methods such as sign language and Braille.
Even students with multiple disabilities are receiving classes, including deaf-blind students which total over 140 children and teenagers in the country.
A significant advance in recent years is continuing education for people with disabilities to study at the pre-university, technical and higher education levels as well as careers that were previously unconsidered, including computer science, the arts and agronomy. (Cubaminrex- Granma)
