Cuba Proclaims Achievements in Occupational Health

CUBA, March 16, 2007.- The guarantee of education, free healthcare and full employment were among the achievements highlighted at the 2nd International Congress on Occupational Health closing today in Havana.

The conference's sessions are being held this week at the Convention Center have been attended by more than 500 delegates from nearly 40 countries. Among the topics on the agenda were the Cuban experience on improving quality of life standards and a more effective approach to pregnancy and old age.

The ageing phenomenon typical of developed countries is also affecting the Cuban population, while life expectancy now at 77, or 20 years more than 45 years ago.

Friday's agenda includes discussions on new approaches to workforce healthcare and social care, new strategies for human resources training, and disabilities. Participant physicians and specialists attending the event have discussed the latest policies on occupational health.
