Support for Cuba at the WTO

Geneva, March 15, 2008.- Many countries expressed their support for Cuba and against Washington's refusal to follow recommenadtions by the World Trade Organization's Dispute Settlement Body (DSB).

During the DSB's regular monthly meeting, participating nations expressed their almost unanimous rejection of the US attitude, regarding the theft of the world famous Cuban rum trademark Havana Club by the US firm Bacardí.

Like in previous years, eitgh delegations against expressed their support for the Cuban demand. Cuba supporters at the WTO included the European community, Venezuela, India, Brazil, China, Thailand, Nicaragua and Vietnam.

Jorge Ferrer, a member of the Cuban misión at Geneva, explained that the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body requested that Washington to take steps in accordance with .

"Even more outrageous is to hear the US administration say every month that they are working on the issue with the current legislature to find a solution to this problem," Ferrer said. (Cubaminrex-RHC).
