General Director of UNESCO Visits Cuba
CUBA, January 19, 2009. The General Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Koichiro Matsuura, arrived in Cuba on Sunday for an official visit.
According to Granma news daily, Matsuura, who visits the Caribbean nation for the first time, heads UNESCO since November 1999.
During his stay in Cuba, the UN official will meet with Cuban leaders and he will also tour places of historic and cultural interest.
Cuba is a member of UNESCO since August 29th, 1947. After the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, the country has significantly developed its contributions in the different sectors of this organization, particularly in topics related to education, sciences and cultural heritage. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
