 Bolivian President Evo Morales talks to Cuban VP Esteban Lazo at Climate Change Summit

Evo Morales: the Summit at Cochabamba is a Triumph of the Peoples

CUBA, Apr 22, 2010. -  Bolivian President Evo Morales described on Thursday as a resounding success the First World Conference on Climate Change that ended today in Cochabamba.

The Summit on this topic held in December in Denmark was a failure, a shame, pointed out Morales before the heads of state participating in the forum held in that Bolivian department, in which the Cuban delegation was headed by Esteban Lazo, Vice-president of the Council of State.

 

“All of us meeting here represent those who’re really interested in defending Mother Earth. They’re the bearers of the ideas of the peoples; they are the voice of the peoples”, he stressed.

 

Morales recalled that the purpose of the forum was “the hope that the Summit on Climate Change to be held in Mexico in December will not be in vain and that our demands are heard there.”

 

After announcing a rally for Thursday afternoon at the Felix Carriles Stadium in Cochabamba as the final meeting of the event, Morales gave the floor to Foreign Minister David Choquhuanca.

 

The FM sent greetings from participants in the Summit to all citizens from around the world and informed that the 17 topics analyzed in the same number of working sessions for three days were also debated for two and a half months before the meeting.    

 

He informed that Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia and other nations participated in the debates and contributions put to those present in Cochabamba for consideration.

 

Lastly, he gave the floor to representatives from the United States, Asia, Australia and other nations, who expressed their considerations on the aspects debated.

 

According to figures given by Choquhuanca, a total 35,351 representatives from social and indigenous movements from142 countries gathered in Cochabamba since Tuesday for the Summit. (Cubaminrex - acn)
