NAM: Lat Am, Caribbean Defend Multilateralism.
CUBA, 26 May 2011.- Latin America and the Caribbean insisted on Wednesday on the need to achieve a world order based on multilateralism and respect for the principles of non-intervention and non-interference in the domestic affairs of states.
During his speech at the 16th NAM Ministerial Meeting, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, affirmed that the founding principles of this bloc should be defended more than ever in the current situation the world is living.
Patiño considered that only a coordinated, determined, solidarity-based action would allow the NAM to move forward with concrete steps to defend the principles and objectives that define this bloc as a movement.
On Tuesday, high-ranking NAM officials approved a draft special declaration on nuclear disarmament, submitted by Cuba, which asks the bloc to take steps to fully eliminate these arsenals.
The draft declaration reflects some of the ideas expressed by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the danger for mankind posed by nuclear weapons. (Cubaminrex-PL)
