International Community Demands End of US Blockade of Cuba at United Nations.

CUBA, September 25, 2010.-  The international community urged the United States to put an end to the almost 50-year-old economic blockade of Cuba during the 65th ordinary period of sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.

Granma newspaper reports that the demand was made by the representatives of Bolivia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Laos.

Bolivian President Evo Morales demanded that Washington end its hostile unilateral policy that violates the human rights of millions of people. Morales said, “I have respectfully asked President Obama to lift the economic blockade of Cuba and of Gaza, Palestine. Ending this violation of human rights is in his hands.”

Namibia’s president said, “We believe the economic blockade is unjust and unjustifiable. It must be lifted.” Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe said: “We join the Non Aligned Movement and other well-intentioned countries that have demanded the immediate elimination of this blockade.¨

Haiti’s Rene Preval pointed out that the blockade has to end “because it goes against the values that promote freedom of trade.”

The president of Laos, said this unilateral policy “is a clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

That’s why, in the interest of the Cuban and American peoples, it is time to put an end to it.” (Cubaminrex-RHC)
