Cuba Calls on the United Nations to Give Humanitarian Aid with Respect

CUBA, July 15, 2010.- Cuba reaffirms in the United Nations that the consent of countries giving and receiving humanitarian aide should be carried out with total respect of the U.N.´s General Assembly humanity agreements. Speaking at the Economic and Social Council meeting, the Cuban representative in charge of business in the U.N., Rodolfo Benítez, asserted that any manipulation of emergency situations or aide against the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity would be unjustifiable.

Benítez reminded the council that in recent years, the number of natural disasters has increased as a direct result of climate change and ecological imbalance and that other conflicts have increased due to the food crisis and the world economic crisis. Benítez reiterated Cuba´s disposition to continuing the support of and solidarity with other nations that have been affected by natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies. (Cubaminrex - RHC)
