
Director of UNESCO Highlights Cuba´s Literacy Method
FRANCE, October 28, 2011.- The Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, highlighted the importance and value of the Cuban literacy method “Yes, I can” at a meeting with Cuban Minister of Higher Education, Miguel Díaz Canel.
The program has given the possibility to teach how to write and read to more that five million 700 thousand persons in 28 countries all over the world. It was awarded the award King Sejong of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization.
During the friendly meeting, Bokova confirmed her next visit to Cuba in January, 2012.
The Cuban Minister offered information on the International Congress on Higher Education to be held next February in Havana whose motto will be “The University for a Sustainable Development”.
Cuban Ambassador to UNESCO, María de los Angeles Flores, the president of the Cuban National Commission of UNESCO, Juan Antonio Fernández, and Cuban diplomat Natasha Díaz Arguelles were present at the meeting. (Cubaminrex)
