Workshop “Cultural Heritage and Afro Descendant Communities in Latin America” Celebrated in Havana.

HAVANA, SEPTEMBER 23, 2011.- Last September 20, 2011, the Workshop “Cultural Heritage and afro descendant communities in Latin America”  was inaugurated at the San Geronimo University in Havana. 

The event was organized by the Regional Center to safeguard the Intangible Heritage in Latin America (CRESPIAL), center of Category II of UNESCO, and the Regional Office of Culture for Latin America  and the Caribbean (ORCALC). The event ended lasy Septemer 22, and the program included investigations about afro-descent in Cuba and the Slave Route Program.

Among the attendees to the opening ceremony were Fernando Rojas, Vice Minister of Culture, Herman van Hooff, director of ORCALC, Jaime Urrutia, director general of CRESPIAL, Dr. Eusebio Leal, historian of the City, and Margarita Ruiz, president of the National Council for the Cultural Heritage. Renowned Cuban writers, historians, painters who have investigated the African culture in Cuba were also present at the event. (Cubaminex/CNCU)
