Arrival of Jose Marti to Caracas Recalled in Venezuela
CUBA, Jan 20, 2010. - A campaign to pay tribute to Jose Marti began in Venezuela, on the occasion of the 129th anniversary of his arrival to Caracas and the 157th of his birth (January 28th).
A Prensa Latina news agency recalls on a report that Marti arrived to the Venezuelan capital on January 21, 1881, in the same month he celebrated his 28th birthday, and then founded La Revista Venezolana (The Venezuelan magazine), which, in the opinion of several specialists, marked the beginning of the modernist literary movement.
The report also points out that the program of activities, scheduled for January 20th through the 28th, will begin with a meeting at the Monument to the Cuban National Hero located at Camino de los Españoles, which covers some 12 kilometers from Quenepe, in the state of Vargas, to Puerta Caracas.
Speakers will be the president of the National Youth Institute, Maria Rosa Jimenez; the executive director of the Casa de Nuestra America (Center of The Americas), Zaida Castro; and the president of the Simon Bolivar Club on Marti, Lourdes Sosa. (Cubaminrex - acn)
