Ecuadoreans Mark 115th Anniversary of Death in Combat of Jose Marti

CUBA, May 19, 2010. Students and professors from Ecuador’s Jose Marti Experimental Fiscal Institute paid tribute on Wednesday in Quito to Cuba’s National Hero on the 115th anniversary of his death in combat.

Representing the Cuban embassy in Ecuador, Consul Erik Cubiles expressed gratitude to the participants in the ceremony and urged them to continue studying the work of Jose Marti and his principle of solidarity with the peoples of Our America.

Mercedes Sanchez welcomed the diplomats and leadership of the Association of Cuban Residents in Ecuador (Acure), whose president Marcos Dehesa highlighted the work and life of one of the greatest thinkers in the hemisphere.

The institution was created in 1992, within the facilities of the Itchimbia Park in Quito.

The center currently has 366 students in 10 grades, a third with some kind of handicap and excellent results in their educational integration.

After the ceremony, the representatives of the Cuban embassy and members of Acure, exchanged ideas with the students and professors and expressed interest in supporting the educational initiatives aimed at expanding the students’ knowledge on the rich legacy of Jose Marti. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
