Ecuadorean President Says OAS Should Apologize to Cuba
CUBA, June 1. Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa urged the Organization of American States (OAS) on Sunday to apologize to Cuba for its expulsion in 1962.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, Correa was speaking to reporters after his arrival for an official visit in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula, where he was received by his Honduran counterpart Manuel Zelaya.
The OAS will hold its 39th General Assembly on June 1-3 in this city under the slogan ‘For a No-Violence Culture’, although media outlets are focusing on the topic of the suspension of this organization’s sanctions against Cuba.
Correa did not confirm whether he will be in the inaugural ceremony of the OAS’s conference of foreign ministers on Tuesday.
The Ecuadorean head of state and government arrived in San Pedro Sula, some 250 kilometers northeast of the capital, Tegucigalpa, and minutes later he travelled with Zelaya to the Mayan archaeological park of Copan.
Correa and Zelaya will travel on Monday to San Salvador, El Salvador, to attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect Mauricio Funes.
