Vice President of Ghana Highlights Cuban Solidarity.
CUBA, March 16, 2011.- John Dramani Mahama, Vice President of Ghana, highlighted on Wednesday in this capital Cuba’s past and present efforts and solidarity towards other Third World nations.
After receiving the Friendship Medal at the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), from the hands of Deputy Foreign Minister Marcos Rodriguez, Dramani Mahama recalled that Cuban internationalists fought -and in some cases gave their lives- together with the peoples of Angola, Namibia, Guinea Bissau and many others, in their struggle to achieve independence.
Likewise, he underlined that, at present “Cuban medical brigades offer their services in many peoples to which it has helped before in their efforts to build a nation.”
He reiterated his country’s pride in helping Havana in its struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade that Washington has maintained against the island for over five decades now, and for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unfairly incarcerated in the United States.
The Friendship Medal, given by the Cuban Council of State, acknowledges the intense work and solidarity of the African politician towards Cuba, and particularly in support of the campaigns for the release of The Five Previously, during a meeting with some of the relatives of The Five, Dramani Mahama talked about the sensitivity that exists in his country with regard to the cause of these heroes.
Also present in the meeting was Kenia Serrano, head of the ICAP, who referred to the friendship of the Ghanaian politician towards the Caribbean island, as well as Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez; members of the Cuba-Africa Friendship Association; representatives of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and the ICAP; and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Havana.
