German Communist Party Blasts EU anti-Cuba Plans

CUBA, February 26, 2007.- The German Communist Party (DKP) rejected European Union plans to further increase hostile actions against Cuba and called for an effective demonstration against such intentions.

The DKP issued a resolution recalling that on June 12, 2006, the EU Council for General Affairs decided to draw up a strategy that would replace the common European position towards the island. Such an initiative expresses the reactionary positions prevailing in the regional bloc, the resolution reads.

The EU strategy is in tune with the so-called Bush Plan, which is aimed at toppling the Cuban Revolution and making changes in the country that meet US imperialist interests.

German foreign minister Angela Merkel is currently chairing the European Union, a bloc that has pledged to Washington’s anti-Cuba policy and looks for ways to further tighten the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island and destabilize internal order in Cuba.

For the DKP the reasons for the EU to strengthen its hostility against Cuba are based on the fact that the Caribbean island has successfully defended Socialism, even after the fall of the Socialist European Camp and the disappearance of the former Soviet Union. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
