Dominican Republic Supports Cuba
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, February 26, 2007.- Representatives from the Campaign of Solidarity and figures from the southeastern Dominican provinces declared in this city their support of the Cuban Revolution and wished President Fidel Castro a hearty get well soon.
In a feisty meeting held Sunday to establish the Preparatory Committee of the 2nd Cuban Traveling Book Fair in Barahona, participants reiterated their will to back Cuba faced with any new attempt of US attack.
Attended by representatives from neighboring provinces of Pedernales, Independencia and Bahoruco, Barahona activists elected Praedes Olivero as coordinator of the Preparatory Committee and Yovanis Reyes as his second-in-command.
Provincial and municipal authorities, as well as social and cultural leaders, academics, union leaders, religious groups and journalists were in charge of preparing about 40 activities on May 6-7 in this city, 125 miles from the capital.
Exhibition, sales and launching of Cuban books, lectures, poetry workshops, movies, painting exhibits, sports and a carnival presentation are among other activities slated for those days. (Cubaminrex-PL)
