Surinamese and Cuban Organizations activate relation

SURINAME , July 3 , 2007.- Yamil Martinez of the Cuban Institute for Friendship among Peoples (ICAP) visited last week Suriname . On occasion of his visit Nadia Raveles , President of the Friendship Committee of Friendship Suriname- Cuba declared to surinamese newspaper De Ware Tijd that it regards the activating of the relation between the two non governmental Organizations (NGOs). The relation was initiated by the founder of the committee Robin Raveles in 1980. He is the National poet in Suriname . Nadia Raveles thinks Cuba is helping the Surinamese people in many areas. She mentions the free eye operations thru Operation Miracle, Cuban physicians are working in Suriname, not only in Paramaribo, also in the interior, the study possibilities (scholarships that Cuba offers every year to Suriname ) ,and the energy saving lamp-project, which now is developing in Suriname.

A relation that was initiated by the late founder of the committee, Robin Raveles, in 1980 and now is already reactivated- said the chairperson of Committee of Friendship Suriname-Cuba. She thinks that the Cuban nation in many ways can help the Surinamese people. "Solidarity is necessary to support Cuba against the decennia long blockade of the United States and the unreasonable imprisonment of five Cubans", says president of Committee Suriname-Cuba.
