CUBA, February 29, 2008.- Young Russian activists ratified their condemnation of the US economic blockade of Cuba and demanded the immediate release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States.
During a meeting held on Thursday in Moscow, the political counselor of the Cuban embassy in the Russian capital, Carlos Valdes, thanked the more than 200 participants for their solidarity with the island in 2007.
In particular, he praised their efforts in favor of the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez – internationally known as the Cuban Five – who have been held in US prisons since 1998 for infiltrating anti-Cuba terrorist groups in South Florida.
For her part, Lena Loshkina, coordinator of the Committee for the Release of the Cuban Five in Russia, spoke of the importance of the work carried out by her compatriots and said that they should double their efforts to achieve their release during the year of the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 80th anniversary of Ernesto Che Guevara’s birthday.
