Mexican Legislators Demand Respect for Cuba
CUBA, May 22, 2008. The Standing Committee of the Mexican Congress approved a Point of Agreement on Wednesday that calls for the absolute respect for the self-determination, sovereignty and will of the Cuban people.
The committee supported Benito Juarez’ principle that “between nations, as between individuals, respect for others is peace.” The legislators urged Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa, to communicate the stance of the Mexican Congress on the actions of the US government [related to Cuba] at multilateral forums and through diplomatic channels, reported Prensa Latina.
The initiative was presented for immediate consideration by Senator Alejendro Gonzalez Yanez, on behalf of Senators Yeidckol Polevnsky, Carlos Navarrete, Alberto Anaya, Dante Delgado, Rosalinda Lopez and Ruben Velssquez; and House of Representatives members Javier Gonzalez Garza, Joaquín Vela, Valentina Batres and Jose Jacques; and members of the parliamentary groups of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), the Labor and Convergencia Parties.
