Director General of the Foreign Ministry of Indonesia receives thanks for donation of solidarity with his country and Cuba confirms interest in strengthening bilateral relations
INDONESIA, May 25, 2009. The Director General of the Foreign Ministry, Retno Marsudi, and the Cuban Ambassador, Jorge Leon, had an exchange in which they highly appreciated the participation of the Health Minister of Indonesia in the Ministerial Meeting of NAM during the Assembly of WHO in Geneva and the probable participation of the Minister of Labor in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement to be held in mid-June in this European capital.
During the meeting, the Director General received the thanks of the Cuban diplomat for the donation of one million dollars to Cuba to help staunch the damage caused by hurricanes that struck the Caribbean island during 2008. Retno confirmed that his country will always have its solidarity with Cuba and took the opportunity to reiterate the Indonesian gratitude for the Cuban humanitarian assistance received during the tsunami in Banda Aceh in 2004 and the earthquake in Yogjakarta in 2006.
The Director General took the opportunity to highlight the work done by Cuba and the positive results obtained as Chairman of NAM and agreed on the importance to continue working together in the interests of the movement.
